Approach to Treatment

I think listening to patients is key. In many areas of urology, we’re able to offer a variety of treatment options that may be equally efficacious but with different side effect profiles. Each patient brings with him or her a unique set of values, preferences and concerns. It’s important to listen to what your patient is bringing to the table so that you can come to a shared decision and treatment plan that you’ll both be confident in.

About Dr. Le

Dr. Le is board-certified urologist in Northern California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley for his undergraduate degree, majoring in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology. He earned the highest distinction in general scholarship, as well as graduating with honors and completing a thesis in molecular and cell biology. He was also a UC Regent’s scholar.

After college, Dr. Le took a gap year to attend the University of Barcelona in Spain where he completed a year-long, superior-level Spanish language and culture immersion program. He returned to California where he completed his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

During medical school, Dr. Le first learned about the intrinsic advantages of specializing in urology. He was exposed to the breadth of the specialty and urologists’ ability to maintain longitudinal care with their patients. He realized that many surgeons often didn’t have the opportunity to establish long-term relationships with their patients in the way that urologists do. Developing patient relationships was attractive to him.

Dr. Le entered medicine in the first place because he wanted to help people. At the end of the day, he finds that being able to help his patients, one at a time, is still the most rewarding part of being a physician.

Dr. Le completed an internship in general surgery and residency in urology at the University of California, Los Angeles. During residency, Dr. Le’s research focus was on the area of prostate MRI and its use in targeted biopsy, with the mentorship of Dr. Leonard Marks and Dr. Robert Reiter. In particular, he worked to correlate MRI findings to actual histopathology obtained from surgery to determine the accuracy and performance of MRI.

Dr. Le was involved in publishing studies relating to this topic in major international urologic journals such as the Journal of Urology, European Urology, British Journal of Urology International and Asian Journal of Andrology. One of his studies was featured as the cover article in the November 2014 issue of the Journal of Urology. This work has also been featured in the press by such outlets as Urology Times and UroToday and was recognized with a video abstract award at the 2014 American Urological Association (AUA) national meeting.

Dr. Le loves to travel as well as explore new cultures and cuisines. He has visited every continent except Antarctica so far. He enjoys spending time outdoors – everything from kayaking to hiking and snowboarding.
